We partnered with the Heritage Council of Victoria to shape a new website that reflects their authority, simplifies complex information and makes cultural heritage accessible for all. Together we delivered a clear voice, content strategy and digital experience built for the future.
The Heritage Council of Victoria wanted more than a new website. They needed a digital presence that matched their authority, reflected their role and opened Victoria’s cultural heritage to a broader audience. This meant moving beyond copywriting to create a clear voice, style and content direction that would support their goals well into the future.
We worked alongside the digital agency contracted to lead design and development. Together, we designed an approach that balanced user experience with the Council’s authorising environment. The Council needed content that was accurate, engaging and accessible – while also ensuring statutory and regulatory information was appropriately represented.
We mapped and restructured content, removing duplication and decommissioning outdated material. At every stage, we kept momentum by aligning digital design, user insights and content development so the new site could launch on time and on budget.
The Council’s work is broad – from promoting the Victorian Heritage Register to publishing research, advising authorities and providing statutory information. Much of this content had historically been detailed and technical. Our role was to help translate complexity into simple, plain language that remained accurate but was easier to read, navigate and act on.
We recategorised and restructured content, creating intuitive pathways for users to find guides, policy positions, expert insights and resources. We also ensured compliance with accessibility standards, reducing reading levels across the site and making content clearer for every audience.
Beyond the immediate website launch, we set the Heritage Council up for long-term success. We delivered a digital writing guide, content templates and a consistent tone of voice. This gave the team confidence to maintain the site and ensure all future content reflects the Council’s role as an authoritative, independent voice on heritage protection.
The project delivered a modern website that is intuitive, authoritative and built for growth. The Heritage Council now has a digital presence that:
By working as one team with the Council and digital agency, we delivered a site that brings heritage to life online – balancing complexity with clarity and setting up a platform that will serve Victoria for years to come.
